Abstract

Percutaneous left ventricular assist devices are necessary to maintain blood circulation in patients with cardiogenic shock after high risk percutaneous coronary interventions. The PulseCath iVAC 2L is a new device that can be implanted percutaneously via the femoral artery. The device consists of an extracorporeal membrane pump and a catheter, which is inserted into the left ventricle through the aorta. The pump is connected to the console of the intra-aortic balloon counterpulsator generating a pulsatile blood flow.
