Abstract

Highlights

Mechanical circulatory support is a promising developing technology in patients with refractory heart failure and the impossibility of performing a heart transplant. The article presents the experience of using this technology in a child with the smallest body surface area in world practice. The use of long-term mechanical support of the left ventricle in a young child in our observation did not have specific complications during the observation period up to 1 year.

Absract

Mechanical circulatory support in children with end-stage heart failure remains important in the treatment of this group of patients. The use of the safest and most effective devices with a fully magnetically levitating operating mechanism has a number of limitations, including those associated with the small surface area of patients [1]. We provide a clinical case of successful implantation of the Heart Mate III device in a 3-year-old child with the smallest recorded body surface area of 0.51 m2.
